The 22st Airlie-Albany CBC was conducted in mostly rainy weather last Sunday
(Jan. 5). 49 birders covering 20 sectors together found 121 species, the
same as last year and nearly the year before, and slightly above average for
this CBC. New for this CBC were Common Loon and Townsend's Solitaire. Also
of note were a White-tailed Kite, Golden Eagle, 2 Say's Phoebe, and 2 Green
Heron. A waxwing sounding like a Bohemian was found but conditions
precluded a definitive ID. There were 27 Black Phoebe, 57 Anna's
Hummingbird, 7 gull species, and 5 owl species. Count-week species were
Sandhill Crane, Mountain Quail, Turkey Vulture, and Northern Shrike.
Notable misses were White-fronted Goose, Common Goldeneye, Canvasback,
Trumpeter Swan, Swamp Sparrow, Prairie Falcon, Red Crossbill, and Barred and
Short-eared Owls.

The 15-mile diameter count circle includes Ankeny refuge, E.E. Wilson
Wildlife Area, Luckiamute State Natural Area, and areas west of the
Willamette River from north Corvallis to almost Monmouth.
