[midvalleybirds] Melanistic Flicker

I saw the dark gray/light gray, almost colorless, bird north of Baskett 
Slough late this afternoon. The head, with a little reddish around the 
base of the bill, was mostly charcoal, as were the back, wings and tail; 
the breast was faintly marked pale gray. Only the size and shape made it 
obviously a Flicker. It seemed to have a lot of unopened feather sheaths.
