*SAS w/ WKNA Keizer Rapids Park Bird Walk Report*

*September 9, 2019*

Carolyn and I led a bird walk at Keizer Rapids Park on Monday morning. We
were joined by eight (8) other birdwatchers. We walked 2.29 miles covering
most of the perimeter of the park. The group was met with overcast skies
with just a little rainfall. The temperature was 60 degrees at the start
and 63 degrees at the end of the bird walk. The bird activity was good
overall with a total of 32 species identified (seen and/or heard).

The highlights were as follows:

-        We saw both a *Sharp-shinned Hawk* and *Cooper’s Hawk*;

- The river was extremely busy with hundreds of swallows. They were
mostly Violet-green and Barn Swallows. We also saw a couple of *Osprey,* a
couple of *Great Blue Herons* as well as a *Green Heron* and *Belted

-        There also were two *Swainson’s Thrush* chasing each other;

-        We also saw two *Downy Woodpeckers* and a *Red-breasted Sapsucker*;

- As usual there were a lot of *White-crowned Sparrows*.
