I was watching Wood Ducks this morning and spotted a female floating prone
on the surface of the water with everything from her bill to her tail
stretched out flat and the water line running back at the lower part of
her head and neck and rearward. She held this pose for more than 30
seconds without moving while a male was swimming normally nearby, paying
her no attention.

Eventually, she picked up her head and swam around and fed normally.

Any ideas about what she was doing? Photos, of course.
