[birding] Marsh bird call

Thanks for posting on the call of the Pied-billed Grebe. I've been hearing that call on my recent visits to Talking Water Gardens here in Albany, but as a new birder I had no idea what it was I was hearing. I had played internet recordings of rails, soras and bitterns but they were nothing like the "cow-cow-cow" call I had been hearing. Now that I've been clued into the PBG, I have been able to listen to the call online and confirm that it is what I've been hearing at Talking Water. That's a lot of sound for such a little bird.

The only other news in Albany is that in the past week a Belted Kingfisher has joined the Green Heron in working its way up and down Periwinkle Creek along Kinder Park, between Oak Street and Geary. Otherwise it's Mallards all the way (plus a white domestic duck that has shown up with six ducklings).
