VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
4th Annual
NEWTON CREEK WETLANDS
SPRING STEWARDSHIP FIELD DAY 2010
In May, Corvallis Middle School (6th grade) students will spend the day at Newton Creek Wetlands in Philomath. This is an old mill site that the beaver have re-engineered. We will have an active day of inquiry and discovery into the life and function of this wetland ecosystem. Students will participate in a series of learning stations with "hands-on" activities and investigation of reptiles, amphibians, birds, wetland soils, oak woodlands, beaver, small mammals, pond life, plants and their interrelated habitats. Students will also be canoeing with an experienced paddler on still water.
This event requires the help of many volunteers. If you would like to join us for this exciting day, please indicate which of the following volunteer jobs you would be most comfortable with. We will provide a brief orientation for all volunteers prior to the event.
I'm available for the day (8am-3pm) on:
___ Wednesday, May 19th
___ Thursday, May 20th
___ Wednesday, May 26th
___ Thursday, May 27th
___ Escort to supervise and guide a group of 10-12 students throughout the day
___ Canoe Paddler to paddle a canoe around a still water pond with two students at a time
(I have some experience paddling on still water)
___ Either of the above - let me know where you need the most help
