Hello Mid-Valley birders. I moved to Albany from Portland in March and
joined this list yesterday. I thought I would share my sightings from
the last few days. On Thursday at the Hesthaven Nature Center I spotted
a Hammond's Flycatcher at the top of a tree next to the creek below the
nature center. Today I visited William L Finley NWR and had some good
sightings. I think the best sighting of the day was at Cabell Marsh, I
hiked the short trail down to the marsh and had great views of a Clark's
Grebe about 40 feet out from the road. Then at the nature center there
was a flock of Evening Grossbeaks at the feeder as well as several
Black-headed Grossbeaks and a couple Purple Finches. I saw an Acorn
Woodpecker there as well. At the Scrape Pond on Bruce Rd someone pointed
out a female Yellow-headed Blackbird to me and I also saw a Wilson's
Snipe. I didn't see a lot of birds but I did see some good ones. Good
birding everyone and I look forward to being a part of this group of
local birders.
