Aaron,

They are very abundant in Corvallis, Oregon right now. I hear them daily at work (Stewart Lake at HP). I was--and still am?--hearing them every morning at home in nw Corvallis. Typically there are many on the campus at OSU this time of year, feeding on elm seeds/flowers; I don't get to campus much, but I did hear many on Saturday at one location. They seem especially evident & abundant in Corvallis this year and I've lived and birded here since 1992.

Hello all,

This message from a researcher at UC Davis comes by way of Linda Fink.

Please respond to the researcher, Aaron Haiman at anhaiman at ucdavis.edu
if you want to help.

Hi,

I am a graduate student at the University of California, Davis.  My
research is on Evening Grosbeak subspecies.  I hope to find out how many
subspecies exist, where they occur, and what the differences between
them are.  My plan is to find groups of birds from throughout the
western part of the their range and band, measure, record, and collect
blood samples from them.  My first step is to locate the birds, and
since they are nomadic this can be difficult.  If you see groups of
Evening Grosbeaks,
especially if you see them several times in the same
place, and would be willing to send me an email, I would very much
appreciate it.  Any information (where, when, how many, etc.) will be
very useful.

Thank you very much,
Aaron
