[birding] sunset park

1. last evening 12 or so people enjoyed sunset park with essentially no rain.
2. there are actually mud flats there and the SOLITARY SANDPIPER was still there and there were about 10 least sandpipers as well.
3. i was also able to put a male western bluebird next to a male american goldfinch in the scope for all. an osprey landed close in a tree for nice scope views.
4. and still a few yellow-rumps (saw both myrtle and audubon's) although way less than last week.
5. there are more activities every day and some birding is included.

Tuesday, May 4  

2-3pm  Franklin School Neighborhood & Tree Tour with Lyn Larson                  


Meet at Franklin School East entrance under the pin oak for a stroll through the Franklin Square Historic Neighborhood and to appreciate distinctive trees in our urban arboretum.                                                                                                             


Franklin School is located at 750 NW 18th St. 





4-5:30pm  Fitton Green Natural Area with Al Kitzman from Benton County Natural Areas and Parks     The tour will include discussions on upland prairie ecosystems, restoration in support of Fender's blue butterfly and maintaining oak woodlands. 6-8pm  Sunset Park Wetland with Iris Benson from City of Corvallis Parks and Rec Dept               


Sunset Park Wetland Mitigation site is over five acres of restored wetlands.  The tour will include discussion of site management, monitoring, restoration efforts, and unique challenges on site.  This site is great if you are interested in invasive weed management, succession, and beaver.  The site is ADA accessible and easy to access for those with mobility issues.
