1. nanette, paula vanderheul, gail andrews, and i found a breeding plumage
PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER off bruce road.
2. the 3 ldies were convinced it was a pacific golden plover, and doug
robinson came out and confirmed it from distant & close range and got
pictures.
3. go bruce road past muddy creek to the goose overlook on the south side.
either park there or at the entrance to a little gravel path just past it.
walk due south probably 1/2 mile almost to the trees. the bird was along a
mud strip. it didn't move very much at all in over an hour.
4. there was 1 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER near it.
5. there were also at least 7 SEMI-PALMATED PLOVERS with a bunch of least
sandpipers in the field.
6. also some beautiful HORNED LARKS.
7. the male YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was at the scrape. hopefully he will
stay this year.
8. the CLARK'S GREBE was still on cabell lake, but no western grebe. there
was still 1 cormorant.
9. there were only 2 shorebirds at mcfaddin - both SOLITARY SANDPIPERS. also
still the EURASIAN WIGEON paula found yesterday.
10. from the cabell board walk we heard a RUFFED GROUSE, a PACIFIC-SLOPED
FLYCATCHER, and saw a few WARBLING VIREOS.
