[birding] Female Calliope stop-by, low-flying white-fronted geese

Hi all,

This morning a female CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD made two brief visits to our
feeder,. While perched, her wingtips projected slightly past her tail,
in contrast to the female Rufous Hummingbirds which have tails that
project noticeably beyond their wings.

For some reason, around the time that she showed up there was a lull in
the usual Rufous Hummingbird activity which has five of them contesting
one feeder. Now that the Rufous Hummers are back, I think she's moved
on. We don't have much blooming here currently, so the feeder is the
only thing happening.

GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE flocks are still going by. Earlier this
morning a flock of about 150 was unusually low, just above the treetops
on Tampico Ridge. Perhaps they're making a refueling stop somewhere in
southern Polk County.

Happy birding,
Joel
