I am looking to do small contracts with folks who can commit to five
mornings to do point count surveys in riparian habitats between May 15
and June 30 in either the Willamette Valley Ecoregion (except Metro
Portland) or the lowlands of the Coast Range Ecoregion (i.e., not
montane forest riparian). You will select the sites based on your
knowledge of places you have been or would like to go to that are
accessible. You will also need to be able to georeference the sites
either by a GPS unit or by some mapping tool that allows for a
relatively accurate placement of the point. Some observational
characterization of the vegetation also will be necessary, and you
should be familiar with and comfortable with the method of conducting a
five-minute count at a specific location. However, the main criteria is
to be very good at identification of landbirds by songs and calls – the
vast majority of detections should be auditory.
More details will of course be provided for those contracted with, but
for now I just need to know if you are interested in this opportunity.
Because of my desire to have broad geographic coverage of sites, I may
not necessarily need or be able to accommodate everyone if their
particular geographic area is already well-covered. I will let you know
if that is the case.
Please respond to me, not the list-serve if interested.
