[birding] Rough-legged hawks?

I saw two Rough-legged hawks at Finley last Monday, one on the south end of Finley going east from McFadden's, and the other (dark one) hovering over N Prairie later that afternoon. Will look again on Monday as I was away from the refuge for the rest of the week.

Thanks Jeff. I saw two Rough-legs about mid-week last week, out sort of near Tangent. (Have more detailed notes somewhere.) I haven't checked the Prairie Overlook at Finley in a while. Steve

Steve and all,

Just wanted to let the group know that while driving around Linn County south of Hwy 34 yesterday (March 25), I came across one ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK along Sevenmile Lane due east of Saddle Butte and another just east of the intersection of Fayetteville Dr and Peoria Rd, both places where I have seen them throughout the winter. I also located one MERLIN in a front yard tree of a house at the east edge of the town of Shedd along Fayetteville Dr. Looks like we have a few hangers on yet :)

It would be interesting to watch for an earlier-than-usual "last" date for wintering Rough-legged hawks in the Willamette Valley this year. I can't remember when I've seen one last -- or what a typical "last" date would be. I'll keep notes for the rest of the season if I see any more....the last one I actually jotted down was Feb 16 but I'm sure I've seen one later than that, I'll check the Prairie Overlook at Finley later today...
