[forwarding this posting from the OBOL list. I vote for sharpie on the
photo links based mainly on the bulky look of the bird -- Joel]

Obol,
I walked out Campus Way on Saturday (west of OSU campus) and did some
birding along the way. Best birds were a F.O.Y. (for me) male WESTERN
BLUEBIRD and a F.O.Y. TURKEY VULTURE. Walking on the way back, I heard and
saw a flock of flying birds that sounded like bluebirds, but I could not get
a positive ID on them.
Other neat birds included a WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCH and LINCOLN'S SPARROW.
This is the third month in a row that I have had White-breasted Nuthatch on
OSU campus or nearby--in Jan. and Feb., I had a White-breasted Nuthatch
visiting a feeder on campus, and this month (Sat.) there was one calling and
feeding near the covered bridge on Campus Way. I also recorded this species
on OSU campus in fall 2009. It's neat to see and hear this species more than
I was used to while living in Eugene!
Juncos have been singing on campus since at least Feb 22nd (when I first
tried to send this message to Obol).
Below is a link to some pictures of an accipiter that flew in and lit in a
tree across from my house. Cooper's/Sharpie, but which one? Any ideas? In
that album are pics of around-campus birds as well.
