Hi Folks,
Looks like we all survived the transition!
I've been binocular-challenged lately due to a shoulder injury, but still
always watching for birds!
Yesterday (Mar. 2nd) I spotted a Peregrine Falcon perched in a small tree
on SW 35th St., along the parkway close to the OSU construction site. I have
seen a Peregrine in this area several times.
This past weekend my husband and I saw three - yes -three Red-Breasted
Woodpeckers. These were in a tree at the intersection (? a gravel road) of
60th St. and Ponderosa - which is the road into our neighborhood (Skyline
West). There were two males and one female (more lightly colored) - the
males seemed to be wrestling each other for the female's attention! This
was a first for both of us, so we've walked back to the area three times
since and not seen them again.
Otherwise the usual yard birds - BC Chickadees, RB Nuthatches, Towhees,
Juncos galore, Stellar Jays, Mourning Doves, a few visiting GC Sparrows, and
from time to time P. Woodpeckers, and the beloved crow(?)
Haven't seen my Rufus Hummers yet - but fresh nectar is waiting for them!
Flocks of Bushtits have passed through, often with a Hutton's Vireo with
them or a GC Kinglet.
Anxious to use my binocs and really get out there!
