1. 14 folks went on the corvallis audubon field trip this morning.
2. i think everyone had scope views of
a. YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS
b. LAZULI BUNTING
c. PURPLE MARTINS
d. OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER doing quick 3-beers
e. WILLOW FLYCATCHER doing fitz-spew
f. western bluebird
3. i think everyone saw very well
a. common yellowthroat
b. american goldfinch
c. red-breasted sapsucker
d. wilson's warbler
4. i think most saw CHIPPING SPARROWS and western tanagers, and a couple saw MACGUILLAVRAY'S WARBLER, and a couple saw PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER, and a few saw house wren, and some saw a very drab savannah sparrow, and a couple saw warbling vireo. and unfortunately nobody saw hermit warbler.
5. there were many more PURPLE MARTINS today. at least 3 pairs going into 3 different nest holes in same tree, and there was 1 sticking a head out of a hole that an adult fed a couple times - so we concluded that there are young? maybe they have been there quite a while like the martins that show up at fern ridge.

Subject: saturday
mary garrard & i scouted this morning.
1. HERMIT WARBLERS were close to lewisburd saddle but not easy to see.
2. on soap creek road we found a clearcut area with at least 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS.
3. we drove out tampico and found PURPLE MARTINS (honest we had not seen molly's note). there were at least 3 and 1 might have been a fledgling. the place is 2.9 miles from corner of soap creek and tampico. big clear cut on left side with 2 dead trees maybe 100 feet out close together and not close to any other trees. i expect them to be there tomorrow morning!
4. many willow flycatchers going fitz-spew, many many american goldfinches and common yellowthroats, a few lazuli buntings and western bluebirds.
5. we also walked out mac-dunn road 100 to where the martins nested last year. we saw 1 martin but just flying over. we did see 1 MACGUILLAVRAY'S WARBLER, a few CHIPPING SPARROWS, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER doing quick 3-beers, and RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS probably at nest hole.
6. at the arboretum we also found 1 MACGUILLAVRAY'S WARBLER, a few wilson's warblers, a few swainson's thrushes, etc.
7. an oddity was an olive-sided flycatcher doing a 2 note and 3 note sound that was nothing like the normal quick 3-beers. it was just sort of a higher pitched whit-whit or whit-whit-whit. we know it was the olive-sided because as mary says "we saw it's lips move". it did this continuously for 20 minutes as we walked by it both ways.
8. so that is my planned route for saturday and hopefully we will see all these and more.
