[birding] Nighthawk flyover and others

While out in the yard yesterday late afternoon, we heard and saw a Common Nighthawk flying pretty high and due north from our house in S Corvallis. On to sunnier skies I hope!
Today, Jarod heard a Purple Martin flying way above our normal swallow flock. We also observed a Belted Kingfisher with one in tow (chattering the entire way), flying due west towards Mary River, then about 20 minutes later, the first, then the following Kingfisher heading back towards Willamette Park. I'm guessing this was an adult showing their newly fledged young where the good feeding holes are but another option would be that they are looking for any not so flooded waters to fish at all! The Willamette is so high and brown, it was flooding into the main parking area at the Crystal Lake boat ramp (kids were swimming between the parking lot islands yesterday in the sun!).
Another indicator of not the best fishing conditions was a report we had yesterday from our neighbors of an osprey trying for a koi in their VERY SMALL pond in their VERY SMALL backyard! The bird couldn't carry the fish up and out of the yard, but instead dropped it on the roof, it flopped to the ground, and they were able to get it back in the pond, it was fine.
June showers make for July flowers??
Molly~
