Funny to read this while at the same time, watch the pair of Bullock's Orioles that have been around the office for a few weeks now. They are putting on a great show starting with the female flying from car to car to look in the mirrors, followed closely by the male who gets right up against the mirror to fight with his reflection. I hear a few calls from him when he does it so I know when to look, and was able to take a few photos. Then they head back into the oaks to talk it over. Will be interesting to see if they nest in the oak grove, another nice surprise for our new office location.
The cliff swallows have taken to the new building, there a couple of nests over all three of the back doors. Last week, there was a little brown bat hanging in the alcove of the door facing the pond. Possibly looking for the old shop building which was full of them!
Today's chore was installing a baffle around the feeder to keep the California Ground Squirrel from stuffing his cheeks with sunflower seed, draining it very quickly! There are several spots where he's been digging to bury his stash and the quail were quick to pick up on that.
Have a great week,
Molly~

This will actually be the fourth spring that I have seen orioles in this spot. I did my usual scouting this spring starting when orioles were first reported in the valley, but without any luck until today.
I have wondered if they nest in the area because when they show up I usually see them for a couple of weeks, which makes me think that they have settled in.

BULLOCK'S ORIOLES do not seem to be real easy to find around corvallis. mary garrard has found a pretty good spot. for 2nd year in a row it appears a pair is working the area just west of forest dell park. from town you go north on highland. past walnut maybe 1/2 mile, left on highland dell, left on 13th, right on bonnie and look around 1684 bonnie. just park on the road and look and listen. besides orioles today we had western tanagers, black-headed grosbeaks, warbling vireos, wilson's warblers, house & purple finches, acorn woodpeckers, red-breasted sapsuckers, juncos, and i have also seen western bluebirds there.
