[birding] Cabell gulls

There have been some questions about my report of Heermann's Gulls at Finley
this morning. Doug Robinson concluded that they were probably dingy
California Gulls. I can't argue with that, except to say that these birds
showed no mottling and their more or less uniform gray or gray-brown had the
textural quality of Heermann's. If I were at Newport or Santa Cruz I
wouldn't have given these a second thought. Today, I thought about the
inland location, but simply assumed that these birds' characteristics
defaulted to Heermann's and tried to work on the harder gull problems
nearby. Still plenty to learn.
