Hi all-- I visited the Prairie Overlook at Finley NWR again yesterday (Jan
4)-- a Red-shouldered hawk (juv) was present again. Until last month I had
spotted red-shouldered hawks at other locations at Finley NWR but not the
Prairie overlook, but at least one seems to like to hang out there now. At
least 2 White-tailed kites were present (one quite distant to the SE). Two
or possibly 3 different beautiful dark-morph Rough-legged hawks were within
the range of my binoculars, as well as several light-morph Rough-legged
hawks. And quite a few Harriers of course. The Rough-leggeds were really
loving the wind, hovering for long periods of time, as is their habit. It
was a bit on the strong and gusty side for the kites, they stayed mostly
perched... Steve Seibel, Corvallis
