Hi Lisa & All,
I haven't been hearing Western Screech-Owls yet, but last night after
getting woken up by some playful house cats just after midnight, I went
out for some backyard owling and got an immediate "skee-eww" response
from a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL up on Tampico Ridge. It then started
singing and kept going off and on for about 20 minutes. I think if there
were any screech-owls around, they would have responded to the saw-whet
during that time.
Nice warm weather! It almost felt like a summer night out there with a
few PACIFIC CHORUS-FROGS croaking from various spots, though not a full
chorus like in summer.
After I went back to bed, I thought I heard a Barn Owl "hisschhtt!"
outside the window, but only one time.
Happy owling,
Joel
