Hi Birders,
I did a bit of birding and exploring around Brownsville this afternoon. Birds of note included Common mergansers and Buffleheads on the south pond of the Seven Mile Lane sewage pond, 100 (or more) American pipits in a grass field on the west side of Forry Rd, and about 20 Western meadowlarks in a grass field on the south side of Holmes Rd. I scoped the pipits carefully but did not find any other species in the flock. A subadult Bald eagle was present in the trees behind the sewage pond, and a male Northern Harrier was sailing over the field near Smith Lake (?) off of Holmes Rd.
At my feeders the Pine siskin crew has increased to approximately 20 birds, and this morning I was treated to a large group of Purple finches which included 8 beautiful males.
