Hello & Happy New Year, everyone!

This afternoon in a steady drizzle, I made a quick check for the
Yellow-breasted Sapsucker south of E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area
headquarters, but didn't find it. However the NORTHERN SHRIKE and
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were perched in their usual spots just south of
there, and granted very good views as I strolled past.

I've been calling the sapsucker's favorite tree a maple, but today I
noticed that there are walnuts on the ground underneath it.

First bird species of the year? A flock of CANADA GEESE heard flying
over.

Happy birding,
Joel
