I went to Peavy Arboretum late this afternoon to try to find the
Northen Pygmy Owl.
I tooted and listned all along the wooded trail with no luck, then i
started to walk the 1.9 miles long hike with only ROBINS and RED-
BREASTED NUTHATCHES, about half way there were at least 2 GREAT-HORNED
OWLS calling right by me.
On Cronemiller lake there were 3 female HOODED MERGANSER on it, 1/2 of
a mile up from that was a NORTHERN-PYGMY OWL like call, i heard it
faintly the first time and tryed calling it in with no luck, i walked
up farther tooting, no response.
On the way down i heard the owl in the same place but it was alot
closer, it sounded exactly like a Saw-Whet Owl, but it was daytime! So
i emailed Joel Geier and he said that he thinks it was probly a Pygmy
owl. I think it was to, on the way down there was a BELTED KINGFISHER
on the little pond by the barn, and i heard the Great horned owls
again, there were WINTER WRENS gallore the whole hike.
