Subject: Trumpeter swan recount

Hi folks,
I went back this afternoon hoping that the swan flock along Airlie Rd.
would be out in the open, and happily it was.
As of 2:45 PM there were approximately 105 to 110 swans spread out over
the field, some of which were TUNDRA SWANS, but most were TRUMPETER
SWANS.
I came up with a count of 78 Trumpeters, trying to be fairly
conservative, including at least 8 juveniles (dusky birds). The more
distant swans (mostly feeding on higher ground) appeared to be mainly
Tundras but I can't rule out that I missed a few Trumpeters among them.
I doubt that 105+ swans were there when I stopped by at ~9:45 AM today,
so the Tundra Swans probably flew in later in the day.
The WHITE-TAILED KITE was perched on its post along the north edge of
the field.
Happy birding,
Joel
