Karan and I spent a quick Sunday morning visit to Finley NWR tuning ourselves up for an upcoming Covallis Audubon Birdathon. Found 67 species.
Notables:
WESTERN KINGBIRD - 2 seen at Prairie Overlook, while visiting with folks on an Oregon Audubon Chapters morning field trip (sorry we had to split).
BLACK PHOEBE - 1 heard then seen at Bruce Road bridge over Muddy Creek.
LEWIS' WOODPECKER - 1 seen, w/possible second bird heard, in large savanna-form white oaks along 'fire road', an abandoned roadway that branches southwestward in sight of the large graveled pull-off below Bald Top. This is mid-way between the turn-offs to the Cabell Marsh gazebo and Woodpecker Loop trail, along Finley Road. We mostly saw the bird perched in the very tops of the trees, or flycatching insects.
