Hi all,
This is a little speculative but perhaps others on the list will be
interested.
Alan McGie's phenology for the Corvallis area (as posted on the OFO
website which Jamie pointed us to) is a tremendous piece of work.
However it's limited by the local geographical distribution of observers
in the Corvallis Audubon service area, who tend to be Benton-focused.
All the more reason why those Linn Co. reports from Becky Schwiebert,
Tom Snetsinger, Jeff Fleischer, Randy Campbell et al. are especially
interesting!
Happy migration,
Joel

Hi Michael,
You're right that the kingbirds are a week early compared with the
Corvallis-area phenology, but they're right on time for the Eugene
phenology.
My speculative hunch is that the Corvallis phenology is biased late for
this type of migrant, since only a small fraction of the population
passes through our reporting area. That is, if you weight geographically
by where the observers are. Linn Co. gets more but historically there
are relatively few resident observers over there.
Orioles might be similar. Apart from Willamette Park, it's hard to think
of a reliable Benton Co. location that gets birded regularly ... though
perhaps Coffin Butte is shaping up as one, since they nested there last
year. Alan McGee used to have them nesting regularly at his place on
Picadilly Circle in North Albany, but he's moved.
