Lots of VAUX'S SWIFTS were flying around over downtown Corvallis this evening! Some were flying high, making their twittery "song," and others raced around in little groups, low enough to let us have a good look.
At Shawala Point at the confluence of the Willamette and Marys, a BLACK-CAPPED CHICKADEE was making a begging sound the way fledglings do. I could only see one chickadee, and I had to wonder if adult females ever make fledgling begging sounds during courtship like some finches do. A BALD EAGLE was flying over the Willamette.
The ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD in Pioneer Park is still sitting on her nest. Any day now, I expect to see some tiny hummingbird babies.
We didn't have time to check for the Solitary Sandpiper from yesterday.
I was surprised to find some Dwarf Owl-clover (Triphysaria pusilla =Orthocarpus pusillus) in front of Adams School. It was blooming, but you almost need a magnifying glass to appreciate it! Large-leaf Avens was beginning to bloom along Dunawi Creek.
