Hi folks,

Since OBOL is still not functioning for many people, thought I should
put the following out on COBOL & MidValley lists for those who may be
interested.

Happy birding,
Joel

OBOL:

Shortly before noon on Monday, Dave & Ellen Morrison saw a bird that they
described as ~10" long -- 6" tail, 4" body -- on a wire leading to a green
house at 14965 Tideland Rd., Nehalem. This is around the corner from the
Nehalem sewage ponds, and just down the road from the green feed shed where
the Dickcissel spent time last month. They watched if for 5 minutes in the
rain. They saw black cap, white underparts, white wing-linings, and ragged
tail. They talked to Carol Karlen while viewing the bird, and she helped
them narrow the species to young Fork-tailed Flycatcher.

Today birders were on site from 10 AM - 5 PM. Don Coggswell, Barbara & John
Woodhouse, Paul Sullivan, Carol Karlen, Ed McVicker, Dave & Ellen Morrison.

The Nehalem River runs behind the green house. There are many fields and
hedgerows across the road and also across the river. We walked the road
near the house, and drove all the roads in the area. No luck.

Somebody else go out there and find it tomorrow! A sunny day with insects
may bring this bird out of hiding. Today we didn't even see swallows.

Good birding, everyone,

Carol Karlen
Paul Sullivan

Subject: Fork Tailed Flycatcher not found today

Just back from PDX birder's night. A few people were in Nehalem Meadows today
looking for the reported

Fork Tailed Flycatcher-without success.

The bird is well described, apparently a young bird with less than full length
tail with ragged tips.

Sounds like it could still be around but the area was covered for several hours
today.

Obolers,

On Monday April 5 Dave and Ellen Morrison observed a Fork-tailed
Flycatcher
along Tideland Road in Nehalem Meadows. It was near the mailbox with
the
number 14965.

They could not relocate the bird after the first sighting, but it is
probably still in the meadows. There are no photos.
