Hi again,
In case anyone reading this hasn't been following the discussion on
OBOL, the nocturnal migration of Swainsons's Thrushes has been going on.
Hearing them calling as they fly over in the night is a neat experience.
I heard some flying over our house just before dawn this morning, giving
both a rising "quee-ee" call and something that sounded more like the
"whit" call that they give on the ground. In between traffic on the
highway plus our roosters crowing, I heard probably one thrush call per
3 to 5 seconds.
I guess you can also hear them in the evening after dusk. Last evening
there were reports both from Portland and Eugene, so you should be able
to hear them in the mid-valley too.
Happy listening,
Joel
