1. 10 people were the 1/2 day corvallis audubon trip to mary's peak this morning - a very beautiful day up there with perfect views of the newport bridge to the west and beaver stadium to the east and mt hood to the northeast, etc.
2. we saw 3 SOOTY GROUSE on the way up including a very cooperative one standing by the road.
3. we looked at about 10 finches through a scope, but concluded all of them were PURPLE FINCHES.
4. we heard 2 NORTHERN PYGMY OWLS and saw 1 of them at a distance, but it was being mobbed by 50 violet-green swallows and kept moving.
5. many EVENING GROSBEAKS flew over and some stopped for great scope views.
6. many WESTERN BLUEBIRDS working the meadow from tops of trees.
7. not very birdy up high and just some ususal suspects - white-crowned sparrows, red-breasted nuthatches, chestnut-backed chickadees, winter wren, kinglet (presumed golden-crowned), ravens.
