Tweep,

Since it's state inservice day, and my inservice doesn't start until 5:00 pm, I ran up to the peak to chase the Finch. Much to my pleasant surprise there were Carpodacus finches in the silver firs just west of the parking lot. I listened to calls and looked with my binos, then went for the scope. Of course, the birds flew before I could get the scope on them. And my ipod ran out of juice, so I couldn't instantly compare the calls.
On the way down I stopped at a pull-out and got good looks at finches with the grosbeaks chowing down on the fir seed (nice cone crop this year). A male and female Purple Finch.
Sitting here listening to the recorded calls I can only say I probably had Cassin's at the top. Don't you just hate that?
Here is the rest of the list:
            Flocks of Eve. Gros everywhere
            Violet-green Swallows swirling all over
Birders coming down from the top said they had good looks at a Pygmy Owl
            AMRO, RBNU, numerous
CORA, NOFL, DEJU, RECR, GCKI, CBCH, STJA easy to see and hear
A few BRCR, RCKI, HAWO, PISI.
             WIWR down by Hwy.
