Hey Birders,

Hope you like mammals, too. But really, not bad for a drive home after school in Monroe. Black Phoebe back under the bridge over the Long Tom River. Bruce Rd.---23 elk out on the field to south, just after crossing the RR tracks. After our recent rain, water again covers the area under west bridge. 10 elk there, one bull digging and rolling in a wallow. Squealing calls from back in the woods. Also, Red-shouldered Hawk calling (as usual) from the trees just north of the bridges. Approximately 500 Violet Green swallows swirled over McFadden. W. Meadowlark at the Refuge Overlook. Continue west to the first house (Dave Bishop's). As I stood on the front porch chatting with Dave, a bobcat mother with two kits following crossed the road and disappeared into thick blackberries. His oak grove thick with Acorn Woodpeckers, White-breasted Nuthatch, Gold-crowned Sparrows, and flocks of 30 plus Calif. Quail.
