A BARRED OWL was present at Stewart Lake (HP) at about 1:00, still there when we left to go back to work.  Directions: from the south end of the lake (parking lot end), take the trail to the east side, along the fence.  Eventually the fence turns east, away from the trail, towards a berm with trees & shrubs, where it turns to the north again and follows the edge of a parking lot. At that corner where it turns north, there are 2 redwoods (or closely related trees; NOT Douglas firs) on the berm, one on either side of the fence.  The owl is in the redwood that is to the south (right) of where the fence begins going north, about 15-20 feet off the ground. It is well-viewed from the path.  It was being actively mobbed by scrub jays otherwise we probably wouldn't have seen it.

Also in the vicinity (probably due to the scrub jays' noise) were a Red-breasted Sapsucker and a male Anna's Hummingbird, among other passerines.

Also more Canvasbacks on the lake today, with 4 males and 4 females.
