Hi folks,
I decided to ramble around Finley this morning in the hopes of picking up
some of the nice birds that have been seen there. Which I did. Here are
the highlights:
McFadden Marsh -
Blue-winged Teal - at least 3 males
Wilson's Phalarope - 1 flying around, rather drab looking so probably a male
Prairie Overlook - I walked the trails east and south for a bit. Peacock
Larkspur is now blooming around the overlook and I took some time to enjoy
it.
Grasshopper Sparrow - 1 seen singing on a little bush
Lazuli Buntings - lots
Cabell Marsh - only 3 waterfowl seen on the lake, but 2 appeared to be male
AMERICAN WIGEON. They were out a ways and I only had my binoculars with me,
but both these ducks appeared to have white on their foreheads and tops of
their heads (not a sun reflection off wet feathers).
Sora, Virginia Rail and Bittern all heard.
Hope everyone has an opportunity to get out and enjoy this nice Memorial Day
weekend,
Marcia F. Cutler
