5-17-09 Naturalist Adventure, Finley National Wildlife Refuge
Conducted by the Neighborhood Naturalist program and the Institute for Applied Ecology

About 30 of us explored meadowlark habitat and wet prairie wildflowers at the North Prairie . We started from the prairie overlook on Finley Refuge Rd. Many Western Meadowlarks were singing. Other grassland and open space birds observed: Savanna Sparrows, Lazuli Buntings, Western Kingbirds (2), Western Bluebirds, Common Yellowthroats, Barn Swallows, Purple Finches, and a male Northern Harrier. A Bald Eagle soared over Muddy Creek.

Come learn or share your knowledge about nature in the Willamette Valley. We look at birds, flowers, animal tracks and all kinds of other things. Our nature walks are slow-paced and casually structured. Bring along a hat, rain gear and shoes that can get muddy. Please, no dogs. Activities are geared toward adults but children may enjoy them too. Every third Sunday of each month. We go rain or shine!
All trips meet at Avery Park Rose Garden: 1210 SW Avery Dr., Corvallis
