Hello folks,

The NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL on Tampico Ridge behind our place (near E.E.
Wilson Wildlife Area) is now calling in the evenings.

I forgot to mention that last week (5 Mar or thereabouts) I heard a male
MOUNTAIN QUAIL calling from the slope above the lowermost quarry on
Coffin Butte, off to the NE of where the trail runs. So there are still
Mountain Quail on the butte, though I haven't seen them there in many
months.

Still no Rufous Hummingbirds at our place. They usually don't grace our
yard until our red-flowering currants start to bloom ... which is still
a few days away.

In recent days we've seen ROUGH-SKINNED NEWTS and RED-SPOTTED GARTER
SNAKES forming courtship tangles. I'm sure there are more technical
terms for these herp agglomerations, but I have no idea what.

Happy birding,
Joel
