This morning (March 2) as I was driving E on 34, about .25 to .5 miles E of
I-5 on the S side of the highway was a field with 10 Bald eagles of various
ages, many quite close to the road. A few other motorists even noticed and
pulled over to watch and take pictures as one tore bloody chunks out of an
unidentifed carcass. It looked like there was another carcass-- this one a
sheep-- much further from the road, so this field may continue to be
productive for spotting eagles. There is a wide spot in the shoulder at a
big metal 2-piece gate, and the field has sheep in it.
In the mid-afternoon I was flying my little radio-controlled model glider at
Peterson Butte, about 4 miles SW of Lebanon, and 5 Bald eagles of various
ages allowed me to join them, flying within a few meters of them, as
they formed a tight gaggle and climbed many hundreds of feet upwards in a
good thermal. Wow!
Also, on March 1 I saw 2 rough-legged hawks on 99W near Llewllyn road, and 1
at Peterson Butte.
