Driving in on the gravel road to Luckiamute Landing this evening we
watched a fledgling AMERICAN KESTREL running around in the road
grabbing ants with its feet and bending down to eat them. It flew
weakly up the road a few times but was not very wary of our car.
Other birds of note were a SPOTTED SANDPIPER, an adult BALD
EAGLE, and many CEDAR WAXWINGS hawking insects over the
Willamette River.
