1. this morning (actually 1030-noon so not early) i did little walks from the macdonald forest entrance at the arboretum
2. i had an excited CASSIN'S VIREO near the beginning, at least 2 (probably 3) MACGUILLEVRAY'S WARBLERS within a couple hundred yards, a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER in the parking lot, and both PILEATED WOODPECKER & RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER pounding on trees. also wilson's & orange-crowned warblers and purple finches and a peewee aloong the way. swainson's thrushes singing but did not see one.
3. tomorrow morning i plan to go to lewisburg saddle and the arboretum and hope for these birds and more.

  Subject: field trip

  1. this saturday is the 2nd saturday of the month corvallis audubon 1/2 day field trip.
  2. Meet at Benton Center 757 NW Polk Ave at 7:30 AM to carpool. Bring Binoculars, water, and sturdy shoes for the walk along a local birding trail.
  3. i will be leading this time. we should be home by noon.
  4. so far i plan to do short walks into macdonald forest. i started at lewisburg saddle this morning where i saw 3 macguillevray's warblers, 2 hermit warblers, a few orange-crowned warblers, heard winter wrens everywhere, heard swainson's thrushes, etc. also possible are black-throated gray warblers and flycatchers (hammond's, pacific slope) and vireos (cassin's, hutton's).
  5. so if you didn't go on the summer lake trip come enjoy what should be a beautiful weather morning of hopefully finding birds we don't see every day.
