On our bike ride to work this morning through Bald Hill Park and along the
Campus Way multi-use path we heard 2 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS. The first CHAT
was on the south side of the Midge Cramer path about halfway between the
intersection with the main Bald Hill paved path and the fairgrounds parking
lot. The second CHAT was SE of the Campus Way path covered bridge. We
heard CHATS at both locations a couple of weeks ago and had not heard them
since then until today.
There was also a vibrant male LAZULI BUNTING singing his heart out from atop
a teasel along the Midge Cramer path just past the bench at the top of the
hill. That was a commute-stopper and well worth being late for work .
And finally, as we raced through Bald Hill park trying to beat the
thunderstorms home Randy recognized the song of the VESPER SPARROW. We had
to stop and pull the beenos out of the panniers to verify his audio ID.
Sure enough he was right. The bird was perched on a powerline near the
ramada provided by Bald Hill Farms on the path that bisects their pastures.
This is the same spot where we saw a singing VESPER SPARROW last year.
