This morning, four people joined in Audubon Society of Corvallis'
field trip and explored Forest Trail 100 in Dunn Forest.
Taking the left hand fork for Forest Trail 110, we checked out the
Purple Martin nest in an oak snag about 150 yards up the trail.
There were 2 adult males hanging around the nest hole and a
female/immature first seen poking its head out of the nest hole and
later flying around and perching with one of the males. No birds
were seen entering the nest hole with food, nor did the non-adult
male exhibit any obvious juvenile behavior such as begging or
wing-flapping.
