[birding] American White Pelicans in Corvallis

I was surprised to see a large number of American White Pelicans soaring just North of the Harrison and 53rd st intersection near the Benton County Fair grounds in Corvallis. In 9 years I do not recall seeing American White Pelicans in Benton County. There were about 50 birds a couple thousand feet up spiraling up, then they took on a V pattern and headed East at about 10:30 Thursday morning 7/2/09. Is this sighting unusual for Benton county?
Must be my year I spotted another White Pelican in Skagit county Washington near Anacortes which turned out to be one of only a few sightings on record for that county.
