I have quite a few types of sparrows in my backyard. Today I saw 2 birds that looked like large sparrows. They had a black mask across the eyes (a la a raccoon) and black running from chin down the chest. They had a little colored breast and even lighter stripes going from chest across each shoulder. I think they had a little russet or cooper coloring in their wings and maybe white bar stripes. I hope this doesn't sound like some imaginary bird. I haven't seen one of these before.

Also I had another bird - size of a small sparrow - with a pale russet (light copper) colored patch on head and on breast. Don't remember other details rights now. Thanks Eleen

I'm a real newbie at identifying birds. I looked in the Willamette Valley guide and in peterson field guide to western birds but couldn't find anything
