Just to clarify, there is only one pond/lake at HP, and it's name, which can be seen on at least one local map, is Stewart Lake.  We used to refer to it as the HP Pond before we discovered it as Stewart Lake. (Yes, I agree, it better fits the size definition of a pond, but I didn't name it.)

1. today we had 13 people on the 2nd saturday of every month 1/2 day corvallis audubon field trip. we enjoyed excellent weather - clear and cold.
2. at hp ponds there were CANVASBACK (best place in corvallis for them), shovelers, lesser scaup, and a singing WHITE-BREASED NUTHATCH none of us saw.
3. at adiar ponds no ducks but we studied an odd red-tailed hawk and glimpsed an accipiter. also singing PUREPLE & HOUSE FINCHES.
4. at toketie marsh we flushed 10+ SNIPE, but could not find any to look at before they flew. there were 4 CINAMON TEAL (3 males), 1 GREATER SCAIP with 3 lessers, some RING-NECKED DUCKS, and a couple killdeer.
5. on robison road we had a few ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS as well as many red-tails and some harriers and kestrals. also a close WHITE-TAILED KITE and a BALD EAGLE easily scoped. there were 20+ WESTERN MEADOWLARKS in the field looking out toward the hunting club. there was a BUFFLEHEAD, many green-winged teal, and a great egret.
6. still on robison but just before airlie was a PRAIRIE FALCON that unfortunately i did not see in time to stop while it was on phone pole. it flew and some got good looks but most didn't.
7. on airlie road we found a field of about 92 swans and 8 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE. there were 23 fairly close swans that we all determined were TRUMPETERS. the rest were tooooooooooooo far to be sure, but we think most if not all were TRUMPETERS as well. there was 1 with a purple neck band. cheryl welchel thought she saw yellow on a bill of 1 but nobody could be sure.
8. we got to the filed across from the landfill just as 25 gulls got up and soared over our heads on their way back to the dump. as far as i could tell most were probably ring-billed with 1 GLAUCOUS-WINGED, but there could have been other species.
