A flock of 74 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS was reported in this same area, American Drive, 11/23/04 and 88 were SW of Brownsville 12/29/06. A large flock is found just about annually in the Fern Ridge Res. - Eugene airport area in winter. They never seem to hang in the same area very long though so these flocks may wander around quite a bit. I've never found more than 2 or 3 at a time in Linn County.

Subject: [birding] Linn County: BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS 12/8

Good Morning,
I took a circuitous route to work this morning and wound my way north from American West Dr along Smith Road and Blueberry Roads to the Peoria area. At 0.6 miles south of Linn County Road on Smith Road I found a flock of 30+ BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS. I wish I had had my scope to inspect the group more carefully, as I thought at one point I saw a smaller shorebird, but I could not relocate it. The group was on the east side of the road, just north of a pair of 90 degree bends in the road. This is the largest group of this species I have ever seen in the valley, although I have heard reports of similarly-sized groups.

cheers,
Tom Snetsinger
