Saw a Western Kingbird on Bellfountain Rd up near the Christmas tree farm west of Finley this morning on my way to work. Also had 5 Black-necked stilts and an American Avocet at Baskett Slough yesterday in the midst of 17,000 geese (several hundred white-fronts mixed in with cacklers there). Had a great time watching both Ruddy ducks and Cinnamon teal fight it out with several males competing for what seemed to be a limited number of females. The first clutches of Western Canada geese are out swimming with their parents at all refuges.
Meanwhile the Evening grosbeaks are cleaning out the feeders daily at home.
What a great week of spring!
