Hi folks,
It was a beautiful morning at E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area. On a 1.75 hour
walking loop I heard at least seven each of ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS and
COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, and finally saw my first GREATER YELLOWLEGS of the
year (two feeding together on one of the more secluded ponds in the
south part of the wildlife area).
I counted 22 bird species that were singing today (counting ravens
making a weird crane-like rattle in a display flight as "singing"). The
one that had me most puzzled was a singing LINCOLN'S SPARROW that I
eventually tracked down in the shaded brush below a small clump of
conifers, which vaguely resembled their breeding habitat in the
mountains.
Happy birding,
Joel
