[birding] solving flicker problems

Seriously this time, we did have flicker damage to the siding on our
house but solved it by hanging an inflatable snake (about 3' long) where
the bird was pecking. If I had a working camera right now I'd take a
picture and send. The flicker deflated the snake the first day, so we
filled the snake with foam insulation that you spray in. That did it.
Flicker left. He still comes and bangs on the metal grate some distance
above the snake. At first we moved the snake here and there but the
flicker finally gave up entirely. They must not like snakes. Neither do
some people who come to our house and gasp when they see it.
