Greetings All,

Today while doing the Brownsville CBC, my mom and
I found an adult EMPEROR GOOSE along Diamond Hill Rd. just east of the
new wetland project east of I-5. The bird was with one of several
large Cackling Goose flocks (totaling about 6000 birds) that were in
the first large cultivated grass field east of the wetlands on the
north side of the road. This field is just to the east of the small
yellow mobile home at the east edge of the wetland complex. This area
is about 1.5-2.0 miles east of I-5 on Diamond Hill Rd. (going from the
Harrisburg exit). These flocks remained in this field from about 8:30
(when first detected) to about 9:45 and then dispersed to surrounding
areas. By mid-afternoon there were no geese using this field.

I'm
sure that Barb Combs will post a full report on the day, but I can tell
you the count got at least 100 species pending reports from feeder
watchers. In addition to the Emperor Goose our team had a Cinnamon Teal
and a White-tailed Kite. The goose and the teal were counts firsts and
there are only one or two other count records for the kite.
